Taking the Anglo-Saxon epic of Beowulf as its reference point, this seminar considers its various adaptations within popular culture, in particular 'trivial literature', films, comics and music. Modern translations of the Old English text, in particular that of Seamus Heaney, will also be discussed.
Evaluation
Students will be assessed by means of active participation and the submission of an essay.
