Introduction to Literary Analysis (ILA) is a compulsory course designed to develop skills related to the critical analysis of literary texts in English. You will be introduced to important genres and authors in English and American literature, basic concepts of literary analysis, and will be encouraged to develop your own critical interpretations of the works we read.

The autumn semester will be mainly based on poetry, and in the spring semester of this class we will look at prose texts and drama.

BA 2005 : The validation of this class (part of a 10-credit module with ELS, the English Literature Survey) is based on three essays (one in the autumn, two in the spring, plus rewrites if necessary) and class participation.

BA 2013 : validation continue notée.

A reader containing all the poems will be posted on Moodle.

- Block, Francesca Lia. 'Beast'. The Rose and the Beast: Fairy Tales Retold. New York: Harper Collins (Joanna Cotler Books), 2000. 167-198.
