Contenu
This MA-level seminar focuses on the representation of the body in Middle English literature. It also assesses the way in which medieval culture plays with the sacred and the profane, thus creating an interface which problematizes our perceptions of late medieval culture and the way it represents the body in secular and religious literature.
The primary literature that will serve for our discussions and presentations will consist of the following texts:
- St Erkenwald
- The Prioress's Tale
- The Wife of Bath's Prologue and Tale
- The ME Life of Christina Mirabilis by Thomas of Cantimpré
- The Fifteenth-Century Metrical Life of St Cuthbert
