Objectif

Upon completion of the course students should
- able to understand the links between language and social inequalities under certain sociopolitical and historical conditions
- be able to understand how linguistic features socially construct and index gender, class and race/ethnicity identities
- acquired knowledge about how people are judged and treated because of the way they speak.
- be able to observe and reflect about discursive and linguistic violence, including their social contexts
- have developed the ability to present their research results in written form.
- be able to comprehend and discuss an original research article.

3. Language, gender and sexuality
4. Language and social class

Evaluation

1 Documenting discursive violence (Groups of 3 people ) 20%
2 Article commentary (Individual) 300 (± 10%) 10%
3 Final research paper (Individual) 3000 (± 10%) 70%
