Contenu

The Arthuriad of Lawman's Brut, dating from the early thirteenth century, and Le Morte Darthur of Sir Thomas Malory (ca. 1405-1471) represent two distinct strands of Arthurian legend: the chronicle tradition, which has at its root the twelfth-century Historia Regum Britannie of Geoffrey of Monmouth, and the more romantic tradition, stemming from the French thirteenth-century prose romances. The seminar will involve close reading of the texts alongside discussion of broader themes and attitudes, and will include a comparative element.
