Objectif

This course is designed to go more in depth in the knowledge and understanding of melt inclusions, in order to be able to properly interpret petrological and geochemical data from melt inclusions.

Contenu

The course will contain in depth theory on melt inclusions, examples of applications and practices. Theory will cover:

- mechanisms of formation

- the different post entrapment processes and their different effects on their chemical and isotopic composition

- what kind of measurements to do on melt inclusions, why and how

- how to read the story melt inclusions tell.

The courses will be illustrated by different examples. Practices will be based on existing or created dataset; you will learn how to recognize the different processes affecting their interpretation, practice reconstruction of the primary composition or how to use the change in composition. We will discuss the possible limitations of each application.
