Content

This class is a Master level class, designed to complement more basic (cross-sectional) psychological research and analysis methods. The central goal of this class is to provide an in-depth introduction to longitudinal research methods, including design, data collection, and analysis methods. A main focus in the class is on the application of longitudinal research and analysis methods, with a particular interest in data on adults and older individuals. The class will include hands-on experience with data collection, and data analysis. To best benefit from the class, students should have experience with SPSS and should have participated in the lecture Longitudinal Methods.

Evaluation

Besides regular attendance, reading of the suggested literature, and active participation in class, students have to develop their own research question within the context of study conducted by the class. They have to contribute to data collection and data entry/processing. They will further conduct data analysis in line with their research question. Students will prepare a poster on the basis of their findings and present it in the last class to their fellow students.

Bibliography

A list of readings will be provided during class. In line with the seminar being taught in English, English articles and book chapters will be proposed.

Programme requirements

Students should have experience with SPSS (or another statistical analysis program that uses user-written syntax) and should have participated in a lecture on statistical longitudinal analysis methods, such as the lecture Longitudinal Methods. Given that the seminar is taught in English, students should be fluent in English (spoken, reading and writing).
