Objective

The objective of this course is to provide students with insights about professional work.

Content

Six presentations by persons working in risk, geophysics or water sciences.
We will invite six persons from public administration and environmental offices that will talk about some specific project(s) that fall within the three main topics of the master (risk, geophysics, water sciences). After these presentations, the students should have a better idea of potential career paths and the knowledge needed to get these jobs.

Evaluation

The evaluation will be based on an individual report that summaries the 6 conferences (1 page per conference). The summary should be descriptive (the subject of the conference is understood), but should also include a personal statement on the topic (see below). An evaluation grid is given below and presents the criteria for the correction.
An additional point of 0.25 or 0.5 may be added to the grade depending on the participation of the students. Indeed, each presentation will be prepared by a group of 2 or 3 students (that implies basic information gathering about the topic, meeting the speaker a bit before to introduce him, preparing questions and chairing the discussion).
The first conference will serve as example.

Programme requirements

Compulsory for all students enrolled in the MSc in Environmental Science. There are no pre-requisites.
