Objective

The goal of this course is to present the main theories and some specific and important domains in the fields of counseling and career guidance psychology.

Content

This course will present different theories and some specific important domains in the fields of counseling and career guidance psychology. More precisely, Holland's theory of vocational personalities in work environment (Holland 1964, 1973), the work adjustment theory (Dawis & Lofquist, 1984), the developmental and life-span theories (Super, 1972, 1990), the cognitive-developmental theories (Gottfredson, 1981, 1996), the cognitive theories (Gati & Asher, 2001), the socio cognitive career theories (Lent, Brown, & Hackett, 1944), the social learning theories (Amundons, 1995) and constructivist theories (Guichard, 2001, 2004) will be presented. After this overview of the different theories in the fields of counseling and career guidance several specific domains will be discussed, such as the efficiency of the career guidance interventions, career guidance for girls and women, career intervention for minority persons, or career development across the lifespan.
