As the commemoration of the First World War's centenary is about to start worldwide, this seminar proposes to study "the twentieth century of wars." It will analyze the issues linked to going to wars (in social, political, economic and cultural terms), those that refer specifically to the experiences of war (war made and lived), and those who question the way out of war (transformation of sociopolitical imaginaries, totalitarian temptations, democratization, revolution ...). Discussed in terms of culture and violence, this research seminar will approach the analysis of wars that mark the european twentieth century, based on contributions brought by social and political history, historical anthropology and cultural history.

This seminar will be held on the basis of 4 hours/week on Wednesdays from 10h00 A.M. to 12h00 and on Fridays from 13h00 to 15h00.
