Objective

Reading in the Sanskrit text important works from the various fields of classical Indian literature and being able to interpret them, particularly with a view towards research.

Content

Kālidāsa's Meghadūta is certainly one of the most famous poems ever composed in Sanskrit. We will read the first canto (Pūrvamegha), as well as passages from Mallinātha's commentary.

Programme requirements

Mastery of Sanskrit translation and text analysis.
