Objective

The course's objective will be to present, within the field of health psychology, the epistemological foundations that have led to a renewal of interest in qualitative methodologies.

Content

Qualitative Health Psychology deals with the mental/social relationship in the physical health field, and focuses on the subjective experiencing of a subject situated. It further develops the links between singular subjectivity and health care systems. The transition from perceptual phenomena to experienced phenomena in the health field is of particular interest. To understand this process, it studies the subjective impacts of passing from one "world" to another: from experiencing health to illness. Qualitative health psychology studies a complex subject, demanding rigorous methodology, that is epistemologically grounded and that does not ignore ethical considerations.
We will study:
. The historical and epistemological aspects of qualitative methods in psychology.
- The various paradigms and how their differ.
- The common features and limits of qualitative and clinical methods.
- The theoretical foundations of the various qualitative methodologies.
- The practical applications and the different steps to follow in order to do research in psychology based on the various qualitative trends.
- The limits and validity of interventions and research in the qualitative health psychology field.
