The lecture will discuss the interpersonal stakes of the evaluation will be discussed: welcoming the family and the child, the setting of the evaluation, leading the interview (basic variables, specifics of the work with children's and teenagers' families), parent's resistance. Afterwards, different ways of psychologically evaluating children are covered: testing (development assessment, learning potential assessment), questionnaires (self- and hetero-reported, administered in an interview), direct observation (with the distinction between diagnostic concepts and observable indicators), and monitoring. The contribution of functional analysis will also be discussed, as well as report writing and conduct of the feedback session. We will also discuss the implications of the choice of where the treatment will take place (e.g. institution, residence), of the interdisciplinary network, of approaches focussed on reinforcing parenting skills, etc.
