Objective


To remobilize previous knowledge acquired during the Biogeoscience cursus to illustrate how life controls mineral genesis and formation.

Content


Classes of biominerals
the role of life in the evolutionary history of minerals
Thermodynamics and cellular processes of biomineralization
Practical exercises on the formation of diatom frustules
Biomineralization in global biogeochemical cycles (C and Si)
