Master of Arts (MA), Specialisation "Culture, Civilisation and Resurgences of the Middle Ages " (2014 ->) | |
Programme requirements : | The Master of Arts degrees with and without specialisation (120 ECTS credits and 90 ECTS credits respectively) both comprise a main discipline (60 ECTS credits) and, optionally, either a secondary discipline, or reinforcement programme (30 ECTS credits). The Master of Arts degree with specialisation also includes a specialisation programme with a volume of 30 ECTS credits. Master of Arts In the list of objectives set out below, the reference [Master 120] indicates knowledge and skills specific to the field of specialisation. In addition to the competences acquired at university Bachelor's level, by the end of their studies, Master's students will have demonstrated and acquired the following skills and knowledge, where appropriate, in a second language: Knowledge and understanding: - in-depth and extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) studied, - in-depth knowledge of the main theories and methods applied in the disciplinary field(s) studied, - in-depth knowledge of the issues that these theories and methods imply in relation to current debate, - [Master 120] specific knowledge in an interdisciplinary and/or professional area of specialisation. In addition to the skills acquired at the BA, by the end of their Master's programme students will have acquired the following skills, in some cases in a second language: Application of knowledge and understanding: - to gather complex data from different kinds of source in multiple languages - to identify and interrogate existing corpora and compile new corpora for specific research questions, - to relate knowledge acquired in the principal field of study to knowledge drawn from different fields / different methodological approaches, - [MA 120] to develop an interdisciplinary approach applied to a specific theme, - [MA 120] to participate in a research project or professional work experience. Ability to form judgements: - to develop new interpretations or new analyses of a body of texts, - to critically evaluate objects of study and the methodological approach taken - to critically evaluate methods and results within the disciplinary field as well as the ethical principles underlying them. Communicative competences: - to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to an audience of both specialists and non-specialists, - to give a synthesized account of a complex set of data of diverse and multilingual origins and forms, - to write an extensive, well-prepared, and clearly-structured paper on an original topic, implementing all the competences acquired during the course of the programme. Ability to learn independently: - to formulate original research hypotheses, - to define an appropriate method for verifying these assumptions, - to use new technologies to collect comprehensive information on a given topic, - to assess the relevance and quality of the information collected, - to document work, identify its weaknesses and define strategies for improvement. |

Programme requirements : | 60 credits ECTS in the first year, 20 each in three different subjects, 120 credits ECTS in the second (2 year) stage, 50 credits in each major and 20 in the options programme. Bachelor of Arts The Bachelor of Arts provides a solid foundation of expertise in two disciplinary fields belonging to languages and literature and/or historical sciences and/or philosophy and theoretical sciences. By studying a third disciplinary field or a range of options, students will have the possibility of expanding their awareness of cultural diversity in the humanities. By the end of their Bachelor's degree, and in a second language if necessary, students will be able to: - identify corpora of different types and from different periods in each of the main disciplinary fields, - compare these same corpora using methodological tools and research instruments that allow them to be interpreted by placing them in an historical, linguistic, cultural or social context, - analyse these same corpora in relation to specific themes or issues and from a range of different perspectives, - relate the knowledge acquired in one of the main disciplinary fields to the knowledge acquired in other disciplinary field(s) studied, - express themselves orally and in writing on complex subjects in a clear and well-structured manner, - identify, through analysis and synthesis of information, the issues at stake on a given topic, in addition to putting various points of view into perspective and taking a position on the topic - build on their knowledge with a high degree of autonomy, using third languages where appropriate, - cooperate with other students in group work, while respecting intellectual property values and ethics. |
