Research directions

(Meta)detection of traces/marks of forensic interest

Main research interest, subdivided in different strategies: detection mechanism understanding, optimization of existing techniques, technological watch (advanced or emerging techniques), development of proficiency testings.

Metadetection: gathering of spatial and morphological characteristics related to a detected mark/trace, in combination with additional information (e.g., molecular composition, nature/type, ...)

Application of functionalized nanoparticles for forensic science purposes

Use of nanoparticles (metal-based, silica, ...) with specific functionalization and optical properties to detect and/or characterize traces/marks of forensic interest.

Imaging technologies applied to forensic science

Application of imaging techniques based on hyperspectral analysis (UV, vis, NIR) or mass spectrometry (MALDI/MSI, ...) to localize and/or characterize marks/traces of forensic interest.
