Teaching and other activities
At HEC Lausanne, Prof. Castañer currently teaches master courses on corporate strategy and business development and a PhD seminar on theories of organization. Previously he was on the faculty of HEC Paris and ESADE (Barcelona), and has also taught at undergraduate and graduate levels at the London Business School, and the Universities of Barcelona, Cattolica dil Sacro Cuore, Geneva, Minnesota, as well as the Technion and the Hebrew University among others.
He has published in the major strategy & management scientific journals: on strategic planning and organizational integration in the Administrative Science Quarterly, intraorganizational lobbying in the Journal of Management Studies, product expansion mode choice & corporate governance in the Strategic Management Journal, synergies and integration in acquisitions at the Journal of Management (JoM) and artistic innovation in the Journal of Cultural Economics. He has also published on interorganizational relations in the Academy of Management Review and JoM. For his research, he has received several distinctions from the Academy of Management (AOM).
Dr. Castañer is very active in the scientific community having been elected and served in different roles of the Business Policy and Strategy (BPS, now STR) of AOM, the European Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society. More recently, he has served as president elect and president of IFSAM (ifsam.org), of which he is the immediate past president. He further serves in the Editorial Review Board of the Strategic Management Journal and the Management Review among others, and previously for the Academy of Management Journal and Organization Science.
Xavier has taught in several in-company executive education programs such as for Bouygues (France) and SIG (Switzerland), as well as open programs such as the ESADE and the Universities of Genève and Lausanne cultural management programs, of both of which he was co-director. He has also consulted for private and public organizations.
