Epidemiology and cancer prevention

Our research group focuses on cancer epidemiology. It aims at better understanding the causes of cancer, their spatiotemporal evolution and pronostic. Our studies often rely on population-based oncological data collected by the Vaud Cancer Registry which ascertains all cancers and some precancerous lesions in the Vaud population.
Evaluation of prevention and use of preventive measures against cancer, notably participation in organised screening programmes for breast and colorectal cancers, plays an important role in our research activities.
We actively collaborate in international and national projects in the field of epidemiology and cancer prevention/screening.
Our Master's topics are integrated into our ongoing projects. They allow students to familiarise themselves with epidemiological methods, to carry out or contribute to a study and, above all, to learn how to approach a research project, ask the right questions and know how to write up and interpret the results. Ourprojects are designed both for students wishing to pursue an MD-PhD and for students interested in discovering public health research without necessarily aiming for a career in community health.
